Image of Mighty Bridges of Newcastle upon Tyne by Alan Gunston

Mighty Bridges of Newcastle upon Tyne by Alan Gunston

For this important commission from the Newcastle Poster Company, Alan reflected on those wonderful railway posters of the early 1900's and their simplicity of colour and content.

This gouache painting hopefully addresses the hitherto lack of railway poster artwork attributed to this historically significant and iconic industrial city.

Alan's sense of humour comes right through in this fantastic piece of work, not least with his insertion of a number of 'easter eggs' hidden in its detail. Can you spot the anachronisms? We'll start you off: the man on the right of the image is holding a modern Newcastle United football shirt! There are more, but we'll leave you the pleasure of finding them.

We've chosen a frame we think suits the work, and provided you with two images of this framed print in a standard size, so you can see how it will look on your wall. One is slightly 'warmer' looking; one is slightly more 'cool' looking, to reflect the different temperatures of light you might have in your home.
