Image of Journey's End by Alan Gunston

Journey's End by Alan Gunston

The sight of a locomotive that has reached the end of its working life is so sad and yet compelling. The workhorses of yesterday are left alone, unloved, uncared for. The colours and textures of age and wear tell their own story - something which Alan wanted to capture.

The subject on which this painting is based, however, has met with a happier fortune: Standard 4 locomotive No 80072 has since been rescued and restored by the Severn Valley Railway. You can read its tale right here.

This painting was exhibited in the past at York by the Guild of Railway Artists.

We've chosen a frame we think suits the work, and provided you with two images of this framed print in a standard size, so you can see how it will look on your wall. One is slightly 'warmer' looking; one is slightly more 'cool' looking, to reflect the different temperatures of light you might have in your home.
